Critics Corner FAQ

What is a Critic?

Someone who is paid to read and review films in any of the HTG Theaters.

How can I become a critic?

Simple. Send an email off to the Critic Corner admin and let them know. Chances are you will accepted into the Guild of Critics and be able to critque any HTG film.

What is the Critics Corner?

The Critics Corner is the section of the site that will not only feature all OFFICIAL and paid reviews, but will also feature articles on the art of reviewing, examples of good reviews, tips for newbie critics, upcoming critic screening info and the like.

Who is the Critics Corner Admin?

That would be Mr. Blacksmith.

So, what are critics paid?

The actual scale of pay will be released along with the start of HTG. The pay scale will be a floating pay scale where better reviews will get a higher pay. In addition to pay, critics who review every film in a month will get Reward Bonuses and ‘critic only’ HTG Town Square offers.

So this means...?

That if you write a fabulous review, then you will get paid well, but if you write crap, you’ll get paid crap.

Is there a deadline?

Yes and no. You can review a movie whenever you choose to. However, the rate of pay will be effected. The pay will be full for the first week of the movie's release, then it will half in the second week. From there on, it will go down slightly and stay at a fixed amount when the movie leaves the theater. That way it is worth your while to review movies the first week they come out, but you can still pick up some extra money by reviewing older movies.

Are there any other basic rules for a critical review?

Of course:

  • All reviews are to be submitted to the Critics Corner. No news site will post them.
  • All reviews must have an overall rating of 1-100. This makes it easier to see what you thought of it.
  • If you wish to build your own reviewing system (stars, etc.) you may do so.
  • There will be no foul language in your reviews. This is a professional job after all. If there is swearing in your article, it will not be posted and you will not be paid for it. Simple as that.
  • Yes, that includes dialogue samples. Bleep them out. Ebert does it, so can you.
  • You are responsible for editing your own reviews before submission. If you have spelling/grammar errors, that will negatively affect your pay.
